A new program will pay Oklahoma farmers and ranchers for their conservation practices, but the deadline to apply is coming up soon, on July 31.

The Oklahoma Association of Conservation Districts has created the Advancing Markets for Producers (AMP) Initiative.  Unlike many state and federal conservation programs, AMP is not just a cost-share.

Instead, the program pays producers directly, a total amount ranging from $10,000 to $35,000, spread out over a period of up to three years.  The payments begin upon acceptance to the program and continue, and increase, as producers develop and begin to implement their management plans.

The program is designed for all kinds of producers – from traditional row-crop farmers and cattle ranchers, to specialty crop growers, orchardists, and urban agriculturists.
