Grazing and Market Support for Tribal Beef Producers

If you’re an Oklahoma tribal member making at least half your on-farm income by raising beef cattle, there’s a new deal for you – but it only runs through the end of this year.

The Intertribal Agriculture Council (IAC) and the Farm Journal Foundation are offering financial and technical support with both grazing management and marketing for Oklahoma tribal beef producers.

Total payments through the program can add up to $45,000 per producer, with up to $10,000 for completing a grazing management plan, and a $100 per acre rate on prescribed grazing practices.

On the business and marketing side, the program will pay registration fees for conferences, workshops, webinars, and other trainings; costs of participation in marketing and brand development programs, including enrollment, certification, and labeling; and various costs associated with the sale of livestock, including commission, brand, and weighing/yardage fees, and even trucking.

In addition to the direct payments, the program also provides conservation planning support, and a variety of forms of technical assistance to help with the adoption of the grazing management plan.

The program has already started, and runs through December 31 of this year, but enrollments are accepted on a rolling basis. For more information, or to enroll, visit the program webpage, or contact Jeff Caskey by email or phone (580-371-7869).
