In 2008, the Kerr Center horticulture program acquired 30 different heirloom varieties from four seed companies that specialize in traditional, non-hybrid, heirloom selections, to see how they would do in southeastern Oklahoma. All 30 varieties eventually produced marketable fruit, most beginning the final week of July. We harvested through September 2, when a tropical depression did enough damage to terminate the trial.
